Guidelines

Garic Inc has worked with hundreds of customers who have returned thousands of PCs over the past few years. Based on this experience, we have developed the following guidelines to help make decommissioning your obsolete equipment as easy, painless and cost-effective as possible. We encourage you to follow these guidelines as you can meet your cost and asset management goals, and ensure your satisfaction with the total Asset Disposition and Support Services experience.

  • Identify the equipment that you wish to return to Garic
  • Establish a de-installation process

The key elements of a successful de-installation plan include:

Removal of all passwords
Where possible, all security passwords, including power-n, administrative and hard-drive passwords should be removed prior to returning the PC. Password protection on a computer renders the unit valueless If we cannot clear the password, the machine cannot be resold as a marketable asset.

Proper packing of equipment
Establishing standards to aggregate and properly pack the IT equipment can reduce both damage and shipping costs. Much of the IT equipment received is in single boxes; this may not be the most efficient way for your organization to ship larger amount of IT equipment. Palletizing shipment of IT equipment can help to minimize costs and, if done properly, will not increase the risk of damage.

Proper Labeling
Many return issues are directly related to the improper identification of returned assets. Sometimes, remote employees will return equipment with their own name on the return label, but without the name of the company that owns the equipment. The solution is simple; each returned asset must be identified with the following information on the Freight bill of Lading or Parcel shipment Label:

  1. Company Name
  2. Return Address
  3. Contact Name
  4. Contact Phone Number
This will allow us to contact you if we have any questions about your shipment.

Shipping

Garic Inc. now offers dock-to-dock shipping services. Just notify your Garic Sales Representative at the time of signing the contract if you want to take advantage of this option. We’ll have the equipment picked up at your designated location, and will assume responsibility for safe transportation.

If you choose to handle shipping yourself, there is no requirement to use a particular carrier to ship the assets, but you will be responsible for the equipment until it arrives at our designated location.

Regards of your transportation decision, be sure to pack the equipment properly to avoid damage in transit.
